Experience and Certifications
I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Texas Tech University in 1983 and have maintained a private practice since 1987. Before entering private practice, I served as the Director of Behavioral Medicine Psychology at the Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas. My specialties include medical and health psychology, pain and stress management, and treatment of anxiety and phobias.
Over time, I realized that psychological approaches to healing were not always sufficient in some cases and that more attention needed to be placed on healing the body. In 1996, I went to massage school and became a licensed massage therapist in order to do CranioSacral therapy as well as some other energy healing modalities. In my practice, I only wear one hat at a time (psychologist or massage therapist) and refer my psychology clients to my wife Doris Weiner if I feel they would also benefit from her services.
In 2010, I was trained in the use of ear acupuncture to treat addictions of all kinds and became certified by the Texas Medical Board as an Acudetox Specialist to practice this protocol under my psychology license. Please see the description of Acudetox under the above menu item
I enjoy learning and having many therapeutic tools to utilize, and I am always open to learning new modalities if I feel they will be useful to the clients I work with.
